For those who can benefit from a broad overview and introduction to domestic violence and child abuse, this book could be quite useful.  Although the material presented is elementary, it is adequate to allow for a deeper search for information which may not be included.  It is also of value in that it includes a sample safety plan, a directory of national hot lines, and a bibliography for further reading.  There are brief summaries of the major theories regarding the behaviors and the perpetrators of violence and abuse, as well as the victims.  There are also descriptions of steps being taken to address the problems connected with domestic violence and child abuse.  It is prepared in such a way so as to function quite readily as an initial reference source on the many questions surrounding these national problems.
